Lenten Daybook

Outside my window...Is one messy yard that needs some love. I will have to wait until after the snow that is coming our way.

I am thinking...I need to have a very productive week and get on top of the chores, clutter, organizing and school work once and for all. (yeah, I didn’t do so well with this last week, so it’s a repost for me :0))

I am thankful for...my new dryer. Oh how I will miss the laundry mat….not!

Learning all the time…printing up lapbooks, ordering books and placed my order for PACE

Learning the Liturgical Year at Home…Celebrating Lent and we are learning the Divine Mercy Chaplet.

From the kitchen...Vegetarian cooking as we all gave up meat for Lent.

I am wearing...pajamas and a sweatshirt.

I am creating... 40 bags in 40 days….I can do this-I need to do this!

I am going...to post more than my Daybook entry this week. ;0)

I am reading...updates on Sara, Elizabeth’s, and Jessica’s blogs. I have a stack of books I am working on as well.
Charlotte Mason Companion book
US History
One Thousand Gifts
The Bible

I am hoping...to move away from workbooks and dive into real books in March.

Pondering these words… “All I have seen teaches me to trust the Creator for all I have not seen.” Ralph Waldo Emerson

I am hearing... the lovely stories from hubby and Captains as they returned from the men’s conference in Oregon this past weekend. What an incredible bonding experience they shared in a very spiritual way and I cry tears of joy for them both.

Around the house...I have so much to do around the house it’s not even funny. UGH

One of my favorite things...a toddler with a pile of books.

A few plans for the rest of the week:
Monday-no school as its Papas only day off from work this week.
Tuesday-light day of school with Captain. CAT testing for Leonardo and BabyGirl all week. Dance
Wednesday- School
Thursday- Dance
Friday-Mass, school and dance

Our Lenten Journey

I can’t believe how fast Lent came this year! Jiminy Crickets, time just flies by with a blink of an eye at my house. I feel like I just put away our Christmas decoration that ends our Advent Season. Unlike last year, I have put some thought into how we will celebrate the Lenten Season this year. I will say it won’t be a big extravagant season filled to the brim with crafts, baking and never ending Lenten activities. I am at the point in my life that I am seeking simplicity. My hubbies favorite saying is “Keep it simple, stupid.” Although not the nicest verbiage to choose in getting his point across, he was in the Marines for 22 years so I have come to expect that jar head mentality to his articulateness. However, what he says makes perfect since. I read a lot of blogs ( Captain calls me a stage 5 blog stalker) and I have found 1000’s of ideas that one could do during the Lenten Season, and I have that personality that I do WANT to do it all, but realistically I simply can’t do it all. Quite honestly, I don’t even want to try to fill our days with busy activities that end up pulling us further away from the purpose of Lent. I want, long for and crave simplicity this time of year. I feel its God’s way of whispering to me to slow down and listen to what He has to say during this Holy time of the year. Our Lenten plans this year will be simplistic, allowing us time to reflect for 40 days on penitence, almsgiving and reverence.

If I were Facebooking

I gave up FB for Lent this year, thinking that this time could be better used for reflection, meditation, and prayer during the Holy Season. I used FB to keep my family updated on goings-on, also to spy on family and friends. (Another stalker moment I know, but only stage 3 this time) I was not one of those who posted about their entire day schedules ( I think we all have someone on FB who does this) , but if I were, it might look something like this:

6:30- wake up and hit snooze

7:00 wake up, use bathroom, wake up Bookworm and offer the day up to Our Lord.

7:15 Pour bowl of cereal, go to frig and realize I hadn’t run to the store to buy milk. Dump Cereal back into box and decide to fix oatmeal (instant of course) with toast.

7:30 pour coffee and sit down to read blogs. Text hubby to pick up milk on his way home.

8:00 Bookworm heads at the door and I hit re-play button on cowboy movie (aka Toy Story) for Tay Bug, then head to wake other lifeless children.

8:15 make toast for myself warm up coffee in microwave and get distracted by Tay Bug.

8:45 change movie from Toy story to horsy movie (aka Tangled)

9:00 Baby girl is up and moving, but I have yet to see any of the boys….ugh

9:10 I decide to take a shower before fighting the boys to get up so I will have hot water today, realize that the caffeine buzz hasn’t hit yet, I turn to get my coffee mug and find it in the microwave where I left it. Hit the start button again and head for the shower.

9:15 Find Captain has beat me to the shower, turn back to retrieve my coffee. Drink a few sips then off to get the other boys up….again

9:30 Change poopie diaper, feed cat who keeps rubbing up on my lag begging for food, lazily make my bed while grumbling that Captain is still in the shower. Pick up things as I walk back to the kitchen to drink my coffee.

9:45 I spy my toast sitting on the counter with finger marks through the peanut butter, deciding it’s still edible I smear another spoonful of peanut butter on it and eat it. Giving thanks that the peanut butter wasn’t licked off this time. Captain emerges from shower; I frown at him knowing he used all the hot water- he hugs me thus melting my heart, okay Captain your off the hook this time.

10:00 still no life from the boys, so I head off to find them still asleep. I wake them again threatening Leonardo with cold water if he doesn’t get up this time. It works! I walk down the hall telling myself I NEEDED to make those schedules and set routines for the kids. Must write this down or I will forget, head to kitchen, get side tracked with coffee once again-never making note about schedules.

10:15 snuggle with Firecracker in my bed and then draw him a warm bath with the little water hot left in the tank.

10:30 I spy Captain pouring cereal and tell him there is no milk- Its instant oatmeal and toast today dear. Run back too tend to Firecracker and have Baby girl play with Tay. Firecracker finds his bath irritating and I know it’s going a long day with my high spirited boy. I spend the next few minutes trying to talk him into scrubbing up and end with a bribe to make a smoothie if he lets me at least wash his hair. Bingo- it works!

10:40 chase one naked Firecracker down twice to get him dressed. He will streak thoughout the day- it’s what he does best.

10:50 tell Baby girl to get off computer games since it’s a school day- I will do this throughout the day with all kids. Reheat coffee.

11:00 Make triple berry smoothie with Friecracker. Life is good at this very moment, I am grateful. Captain makes himself a ham and cheese sandwich with chips for breakfast. Yes, I have no control over my children!

11:15 children do morning chores; I do dishes and start laundry.

12:00 come to realize I am still not showered and it is obviously going to be a jammie day for all.

12:30 Send kids out to play and I fix lunch. Find coffee in microwave and decide to down the entire cup, cold. Yes, I need that caffeine fix bad right now and then chase it with a piece of chocolate. Mom is happy!

1:30 School starts with Morning Offering, Our Father, Religion, Math and Language Arts.
Story book with little ones
Coloring books and sheets
Playdough
Nick Jr.

3:00 try to put Tay down for nap but give up, mom will be home soon-she can try another go at nap time.

3:30 Abram come home from school, house is messy, loud and chaotic- I call it a half day.

3:45 afternoon chores for kids

4:00 Sweet-pea is home, Tay is napping and I head for the shower. Shortly after that idea, Sweet-pea jumps in shower and I am bumped to back of line once again.

4:30 pick up house, do more laundry sit down and read for a bit

5:30 dinner time and no clue what to fix. I forgot to pull meat out of the freezer. Rummage through pantry. Tell myself I need to make weekly meal plan along with schedules for kids- go to write that down.

5:35 Firecracker hits bother (again), all out fight breaks out that needs a referee.

5:45 All is calm; I forget what I was doing and head to cook pasta and salad for dinner.

6:30 dinner is done and we sit to pray, eat and share about the day.

7:30 clean off Table, pick up house, and tend to little ones.

8:00 family Rosary

8:30 Send kiddos to get ready for bed watch some TV or a movie until 9:00

9:00 tell kids to head to bed and microwave some Sleepy Time tea.

9:30 tell kids to head to bed again and this time I mean it! Hubby can't find his work clothes-ugh, which basket (or pile) are they in

9:45 Lay down with Firecracker, say bedtime prayers and hope I don’t fall asleep first.

10:30 I head to bed- no shower today, so I set my alarm for the morning to allow a shower before getting kids up.

10:45 Captain comes in from his room, dogs bark and I get up to see what in the H*** is going on. He find my tea in the microwave, I drink it cold.

11:00 I am back in bed and sleep takes over

1:00 A.M Baby girl wakes me with her sleep walking and I put her back to bed

2:20 Firecracker comes in to co-sleep

3:28 Cat wakes me as she is trying to get a drink from the tub. Yes, she is the only cat I know who drinks from the tub, not a bowl.

4:30 hubbies alarm goes off for work. I pray for more sleep and my prayer is answered.

6:30 My alarm goes off, I don’t hit snooze today, instead I stumble into the shower. I am Thankful for hot water and cleanliness. I offer up a new day!

Mardi Gras Daybook

Outside my window...it snowed for a bit, but it didn’t stay long.

Thank you Sarah!

I am hoping...to do something fun and spontaneous this week with my kid’s.

Pondering these wordsQ&A Your Biggest Homeschooling Mistakes

Life without a laptop

I am very lost without my computer to say the least. It has officially been months since I have had a working laptop; however, I am still not use to living without it. I feel like a good chunk of my life is on that unusable piece of machine, mostly cherished photos. One of my little angels forgot it was plugged into the wall and while ungracefully attempting to stand up; he ripped the plug out of the laptop. I had hubby take it into the computer shop and he was told we had to replace the power cord input. It would cost us 200 plus to fix my 300-dollar computer, so we opted to wait until some extra cash came in. (nine people at home, extra cash flow is just unheard of)
Last week hubby took the computer into another repair shop to see how much they would charge to fix it. About 20 minutes later we received a call from the shop saying its not the power jack, but the power cord that is bad. The repair would cost us the price of a new cord, which is about 20 dollars, not 200 plus. (I am still bothered by the fact that people want to rip off others by charging them for repairs that are unnecessary. Had we not looked into the other shop, we would have never known that it wasn’t the power jack that was damaged.) So, the bottom line is I have to wait another week or so for the charger to come in and I should have a functional laptop once again. In the mean time I won’t be able to post photos (boy do I have tons of those) on my blog, as our prehistoric Dell computer refuses too corporate with my camera and allow down loads.

Outside my window…. I haven’t even looked out side today.

I am thinking
...It’s Saint Valentines Day I have nothing ready. Saint Valentine, pray for us!

I am thankful...for the new dryer coming to my house today.

From the kitchen...Lots of Valentine goodies to be made and enjoyed by eager little ones.

Learning all the time...I received Firecracker's curriculum yesterday in the mail from Catholic Icing.

Pondering these words... God is always good and I am always loved…. One Thousand Gifts

I am listening…. To the movie Courageous and Captain is playing the keyboard down the hall.

Around the house…Laundry as far eye the eyes can see since we went to the laundry mat last night and I haven’t started folding the clothes.

I am hoping...that we have a really good week….

I am praying... I lost my credit card and have turned to one of our favorite saints for help.

St. Anthony’s prayer

"Blessed be God in His Angels and in His Saints"
O Holy St. Anthony, gentlest of Saints, your love for God and Charity for His creatures, made you worthy, when on earth, to possess miraculous powers. Encouraged by this thought, I implore you to obtain for me (request). O gentle and loving St. Anthony, whose heart was ever full of human sympathy, whisper my petition into the ears of the sweet Infant Jesus, who loved to be folded in your arms; and the gratitude of my heart will ever be yours. Amen.

A few plans for the rest of the week: Monday-School work, Tuesday-St. Valentines Day Tea, Wednesday- CAT Test and school, Thursday- CAT Test and Dance, Friday- CAT Test and Dance.

Daybook

Outside my window…. Sunny and in the 40’s. I would like to know what happened to our winter, as there wasn’t one to speak of this season.

I am thinking...how long can a person go with out a good nights sleep, it’s been weeks.

I am thankful...for new beginnings that surround me.
My dad

From the kitchen...A 20 pound lasagna from Super Bowl Sunday, and I didn’t take any photos.

Learning all the time...tackling diagramming sentences with Captain. Boy is this a challenge and reminder that I need a refresher in English.

Living the Liturgical Year at Home…working on this curriculum right now and getting ready to make a book order.

I am creating...my Homeschool book order list, still. I do have Captain’s science list finished and will post that soon.

I am wearing...gray yoga pants and a long sleeve T.

I am listening….Toy Story 1,2, & 3 playing over and over again. Tay bug is ill and these movies make her happy and that makes for a happy family.

Around the house…still no chore charts and I feel like I have lost the battle of a clean house right now.

I am hoping...That the flu will move quickly through our house. Two are down with it today and seven more to go. Pulled out the Elderberry and gave everyone a dose today.

I am praying...For a healthy family

A few plans for the rest of the week: Monday-sick ones with the flu and the rest of week will most likely be the same.
